These aren't the same number. Recycling is compared against landfilling; burning is modeled as an engineered waste-to-energy facility with an energy-recovery offset — open or roadside burning has no offset and is usually worse than either. See the Log waste tab for the full factor table.

Avoided ≠ if-burned: "Avoided" is the emissions saved by recycling instead of landfilling. "If burned" models an engineered waste-to-energy facility with an energy-recovery offset — not open or roadside burning, which has no such offset and is typically worse. Figures are adapted from the US EPA WARM model for internal reporting — not a verified, tradable carbon credit.
